Irreplaceable
In memory of my best friend and spiritual father Sjoerd Sjoerds
When I saw you for the first time, we both experienced a kindred spirit. We both knew we were from the same family, the family of our Father God. Two people with a lot of baggage from the past, carrying deep hurt and many of times feeling lonely, and yet both of us saved by the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. After I met you and we built a wonderful father-daughter relationship, I found out that some people are irreplaceable. People like you. You have changed my perspective about life and what really is important. There were moments, since I became a believer in Christ, when I needed emotional and spiritual support. You were always there for me. Your spirit, your care, your kindness and empathy and your honesty were together a heavenly foundation on which I could easily build my life and my character. I know that the Lord placed you in my life even if it was for such a short time. And I know He didn't take you away but you were stolen from me. When you passed on to be with Jesus, my world crumbled down. It all broke to pieces. You were the only human I had as a family. You were the father I never had here on earth, the best friend I could always count on. I will never forget your laughter and your tears. I will always cherish your heart and your soul because they were a treasure to me. With you I could cry, be open about the way I felt, share my heartache, laugh uncontrollably and have discussions on different subjects. We could talk for hours on the phone, every day and we could never get tired of each other. When I lost you here on earth, I lost everything. I had never felt so heartbroken. The pain in my soul, because of grief, was so overwhelming that at times I thought I would die. I didn't get the chance to say good bye or to hug. I was cruelly forced to let you go and live without you. But I promised myself, I promised you and the Lord that I will honor you with my work, that I will mention your name and that you will NOT be forgotten. I know you are with the Lord now, in complete peace, health and joy. You will never have to shed another tear, your heart will never be broken again, you will never have to experience any lack because now it is well with you. And I know we will see each other again. But I miss you. Sometimes I ask myself how it would be if you were still here, but I know it is a worthless question.
I want to thank you Sjoerd. Thank you for who you are, for everything you did for me.
Thank you for your generosity, for the strength you gave me. For all those times you were just listening to me without you complaining. Thank you for your sweet presence and kind words. Thank you for you positive criticism, for showing me a mirror when I needed one. You never spared me the truth and I am glad for that as well. Thank you that you put Jesus first in your life and because of that you were the greatest example to me of how a real man should be like. With you I was loved, accepted, never condemned, always forgiven. With you I was myself. Besides Jesus, you were the only man I was never afraid of.
After Christ, you are the most amazing and beautiful gift I have ever received from God. So Sjoerd, you are irreplaceable to me. See you Home. I love you.
